Greater Kailash II, New Delhi

About us

Modern Montessori International Pre-School Centre, founded in 2004, is located in Greater Kailash -II, New Delhi. Over the years, the school has established itself as one of the premier Montessori schools in the city for pre-primary education.

The school uses the Montessori Method to help each child spontaneously reach his or her full potential - intellectually, socially, and emotionally. Teaching values at our school are aimed towards imparting qualities of self-confidence, poise, a spirit of sharing, and exemplary social behavior. The curriculum supports meaningful, exponential development of reading and prewriting skills, math, and a keen, scientific awareness of the world around us. Such cognitive and affective input from the school brings about a holistic development of the child's personality at an early age that is an invaluable investment for their future.

Principal Speaks

"Every Single mind is endowed with an element of genius. All it needs is a spark to ignite it, to set it flowing."

We at MMI strive to offer much more than mere education. We lay immense emphasis on the overall development of every child, a thorough physical, mental and spiritual development of these little ones so that these very young minds may one day grow up, not just into fine educated individuals but individuals who have the prowess to make a difference, so that today’s prodigies may grow up to become tomorrow’s leader.

My thanks and compliments to all the member of MMI family for making MMI what it is today.

- Sujata Sundaresan

Our Teachers

"Learning is an exciting process of discovery, leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline and a love for learning" says Dr. Maria Montessori, the brain behind Montessori philosophy. The school can boast of having a team a very dedicated and enthusiastic teachers. Each teacher undergoes at least 600 hours of thorough Montessori training before being qualified to teach at the school. This includes familiarisation with the Montessori materials and insights into handling young children sensitively . We have experienced Montessori trained teachers To give the children best care, love and support. In line with the Montessori philosophy that each child is unique and therefore should be allowed to develop at his/her own pace, our Montessori trained teachers are dedicated towards developing the full potential of the child. The teachers are motivated to keep themselves updated by attending skill enhancement workshops.

Support Staff

The love and care  extended by the support staff is worth a mention .The support staff maintains a high level of cleanliness and hygiene.

The Out Reach Program

The school runs "Shiksha"- an educational initiatives for underprivileged children including Pre-school [3-6 yrs] and Remedial Education [6-14 yrs school going]. It embraces a 'whole child' curriculum incorporating the Montessori Method of learning, enhancing children’s skills in Knowledge and information and spoken English. The children are provided books and stationary and an afternoon meal. Children are regularly inspected for physical hygiene. They are given soap, toothbrush, toothpaste and shampoo periodically

Our Facilities

  • Spread over a sprawling 11, 000 square feet, the school invites the child to explore and enjoy his or her space. The Jungle Gym is popular with the children and enables them to enhance and consolidate their gross motor skills. There is also the added attraction of a soft gym, ball pool, basket ball, sand pit, beam balance ,cars and tricycles. A lush green lawn, nature walk and vegetable & herbs garden further help children in experiential learning.
  • The classrooms are spacious, well lit and air-conditioned. Walk into a carpeted classroom on any school day and you will be able to see uniformed children sitting on them and working on chowkis. Hence, shoes are not worn inside the classrooms by either the children or adults. The toilets are clean, hygienic and child friendly. In addition, in order to maintain a bag-free environment, each child is allotted a cubby in the classroom where the teacher keeps her/his work and a set of clothes.
  • Surprisingly, given the propensity of young children to fuss over their food, all the children enjoy the lunch menu (in the 30-seater cafeteria) provided by the school which is prepared in consultation with dietetics expert. The meals are nutritionally balanced, healthy yet exciting to young children, and are prepared under strict supervision in hygienic conditions. The children are served to their full satisfaction. The major benefit of this arrangement is that the children who do not normally eat at home, start eating in their friends company. In this way the liking for the food also develops. R.O water is provided so that children are not required to bring water bottles. Most importantly, our meal time  is planned to create awareness of hygiene ,healthy eating habits, cleaning up,  etiquettes & decorum. As a part of their curriculum  the children are involved in age appropriate dry cooking activities so as to make learning a fun filled experience.
  • Security System: A child’s security is of prime concern at MMI and that’s why we have a card system that ensures that your child is safe during the pick and drop from school.
  • Emergency Treatment: The school ensures the safety of every child .We are associated with Dr. Arun Wadhwa ,a renowned child specialist .In case of any medical emergency/mishap  ,first aid is administered providing care and comfort to the child prior to the parents/guardians arriving. In case  of any serious medical emergency after notifying parents/guardians, the child is taken to the child care centre to seek appropriate medical attention.
  • Transport: The school can provide escorted ,safe  transport catering  to South Delhi and Charmswood.

Our Curriculum

Montessori Environment

Montessori Method might be defined as "education by means of liberty in a prepared environment". The "prepared environment" consists of an open and airy classroom with many materials in each area of learning displayed in an ordered fashion. This ordered environment strives to create an ordered life. The child learns to return each "job" to its place before choosing a new project.

The pre-school child has the free choice of jobs within the prepared environment, which creates independence and self-direction. The free choice is limited to each material not already in use by another child unless the child using a specific material "invites" another child to and or share in the project. This develops the respect of individuals and their rights.

The elementary child works on a "contract" basis. The child has the responsibility of scheduling his or her time to complete a given amount of work in a given amount of time, yet has the freedom of sequence.

The five traditional Montessori areas of education are:

Practical Life Exercise
The Exercises of Practical Life, which are the foundation of a Montessori environment, provide a wholesome range of activities that allow a child to develop control and coordination of movement, awareness, of his/her environment, good work habits, responsibility, concentration, attention, independence, order and positive self-image which can be attained by spontaneous and purposeful work.

Sensorial Training
Children learn through the five senses. The primary purpose of sensorial exercises is to further refine his/her senses of touch, smell, sight and hearing. The materials used in the sensorial exercises will be unlike anything else that a child has encountered in the way of playthings. A child will be able to perceive sizes, shapes, colours, sounds, textures, odours etc.
The sensorial materials lay a solid foundation for Mathematics, Geometry, Geography, Botany, Art and Music.

Montessori Language
A multi-sensory approach that combines phonics, stories and language experiences to bring meaning to the learning of reading and writing. In the system, the child does not learn by rote , but utilizes all his/her senses to help him/her read and write with proper understanding. Discovery becomes interesting, fun and creative through activities in the Pink, Blue and Green Montessori language series.
Grammar will be taught to enhance the child's attention to the use of words in everyday speaking.

Montessori Mathematics
An activity-based program that allows your child to have hands-on experience in learning mathematical concepts. Montessori arithmetic is taught through the manipulation of concrete objects. Your child will be taught addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, reading of clock, the decimal system, number bonds, length, weight, calendar, capacity, graph, money and problem solving.

Cultural Subjects
The Montessori cultural subjects cover:

Nature study
Its includes the study of living and non-living things. Children will have the opportunity to explore and understand their environment.

Botany and Zoology
Children are exposed to the study of plants and animals. They will be taught to classify impressions into clear and simple categories.

Geography
To launch the child's exploration of the world's physical environment, children are introduced to various continents, countries, states, land and water form and the solar system.

History
Through creative activities such as modeling, painting and collage, children are taught to understand the distinction between past and present and how past events have led to the present situation

FAQ's

1. What is the difference between Montessori and traditional education?
Ans: The Montessori Method of education is basically a unique approach to learning. Rather than "teaching" the child concepts, an environment is designed to stimulate the child's interest and facilitate his understanding and learning capacities spontaneously with little or no adult intervention.

Montessori emphasizes learning through all five senses, not just through listening, watching, or reading. Children in Montessori classes learn at their own, individual pace and according to their own choice of activities from hundreds of possibilities. Learning is an exciting process of discovery, leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning. Montessori represents an entirely different approach to education.

2. Can I do Montessori at home with my child?
Ans: Yes, you can use Montessori principles of child development at home. Look at your home through your child's eyes. Children need a sense of belonging, and they get it by participating fully in the routines of everyday life. "Help me do it by myself" is the life theme of the preschooler. Can you find ways for your child to participate in meal preparation, cleaning, gardening and caring for clothes, shoes, and toys? Providing opportunities for independence is the surest way to build your child's self-esteem.

At the school level many homeschooling and other parents use the Montessori philosophy of following the child's interest and not interrupting concentration to educate their children.

In school only a trained Montessori teacher can properly implement Montessori education, using the specialized learning equipment of the Montessori "prepared environment." Here social development comes from being in a positive and unique environment with other children -- an integral part of Montessori education.

3. What are the Special Features of your School?
Ans: The USP of MMI is that it has a warm, secure and a comforting environment. Here, the child has the freedom to explore, satisfy his curiosity and cater to his inner needs. The close interaction ensures that each child is heard and cared for. This goes a long way in building up the child’s personality, confidence and helping him to become an achiever.

MMI is the most wonderful Institute for our enthusiastic toddlers. I, Diksha Mahajan (mother of Ashria Mahajan) gets immense pleasure to share my
experience with MMI. My first born (my son) graduated from MMI institute and I knew second time where my steps were taking my daughter. I knew for surethat here at MMI, best values, love and education will be given to her. My personal experience with such gracious teachers cannot be put in
words, but can only be felt. The teachers (lovingly called AUNTIES), put their heart and soul in grooming  thekids. Not to be forgotten Seema aunty and Preeti aunty have worked so hard in settling my daughter, making her a better and responsible child. She knows her world from her beloved and charming aunties. She has learned the words of wisdom from them and has come out to be very independent child. They are like second mommies to her.
Ashria will surely never forget her first teachers, her favourite aunties.MMI has always taught their children in very creative yet easy way.
I' m glad that I chose MMI for my kids.

Thank you MMI Just the very thought that Sia’s session at MMI is about to finish brings tears in my eyes. Our experience of 2 years at MMI has been so beautiful so many memories you all at MMI have given that penning them down would need a book by me, not just few words.Sia was not even 2 years old when she started her session with MMI, and the way teachers (Aunty’s as they are fondly called) handled each and every child with their tantrums and moods thrown at the teachers is commendable. The love, trust and care given by each staff of MMI be it guard, teachers, didis is amazing. All the events/ festivals organised by the school were truly exceptional and well organised. Not only the children enjoyed but we as parents were equally excited.MMI has helped us at the moments of weakness where as parents we felt helpless in cleaning with certain issues with the child.MMI’s way of teaching is so interesting and simple that I don’t remember Sia saying once also that I don’t want to go to school, which is a compliment in itself.
Thanks to all the teachers and didis for being friends, guides, support, councellors and gurus . Our heartfelt thanks to all.

What attracted us to the Modern Montessori International School (MMI) are the well-rounded pedagogy and a system of education that the school promotes in a wonderful school setting. Most importantly, we are extremely happy with the human values it inculcates and we believe our child, Avani is demonstrating those values in her daily small interactions. Over the few months that she has been in the school, she has made remarkable learning achievements reflecting how much she is enjoying the learning environment provided by the school.  Her independence surprises me all the time. As parents we are very thankful and indebted to Ritu Mam’s commitment because of whom we can see Avani growing into a little confident girl. Avani’s bonding with Ritu Mam shows the warm and responsive relationship, which has helped her, to develop a trusting, caring and secure relationship with the school. We are enormously impressed with the way, Principal Mam knows about each child’s progress and were able to guide us as parents to further focus on our child’s growth. It was because of her that we sought admission in this school.
Thank you very much for providing the foundation for Avani’s growth in the future.

It’s been a wonderful association with MMI. As a parent, one wants the best for their child, and MMI has not let us down. We applaud the efforts of all the teachers and other staff who have made learning a thoroughly joyful experience.

Simar has learned so much and gained in confidence. The fact that she really looks forward to attending school and be a part of all the activities has reaffirmed our faith in Montessori teaching. Her happy face says it all. Thank you all aunties and didis. And of course, the rabbits and guard uncles too.

I have observed a mark change in my daughter ever since she has started going to ‘MMI’. She has learnt to engage herself by her own and makes an effort to do her little chores herself.

The fact that she enjoys going to school and meet the ‘rabbits’ is demonstrated every morning when she would come running to me with her bag, the moment I am on the breakfast table, chanting "Papa office, baby school...." (meaning Papa is going to office & it’s time for me to go to school).

MMI has shown their most patient and warmest welcome to us, and thanks to all the love and professional attention by the teachers, our daughter was quick to adapt to her new environment. Now she loves going to school and we see her catching her English language very smoothly. She is broadening her horizons and interests through her experience with her classmates, and under the care and discipline set out at the school we hope she will further acquire many skills she will need for her next stages in her life. We see she is in good hands with much appreciation.

The world of MMI – A Cocoon of love

My otherwise shy baby blossomed into a confident little boy in front of my eyes, as is by magic. The teachers at MMI were the master magicians who waved their wands of love, care and tenderness on my little one. The hugely encouraging PTM’S, the fun-filled festival celebrations, the eager anticipation of special days, the spectacular annual functions, the responsible guard ‘bhaiya’, the ever-smiling ‘didis’, the delicious cafeteria food and the vivacious teachers – etched a permanent place for themselves in my heart.

MMI was an island of excellence, joy, positivity and hope that provided a second home to my children. I regret that the school is not functional, at least till class V. My greatest moment of sadness was when Aditya and Anant secured admission into a ‘big’ school and had to move on! Who says schools are ‘big’ only in size? The MMI world had the largest heart, open to scores of children, whom it enveloped with radiance and joy that is infectious.

"God gave us babies. MMI gift wrapped them for us".
A big thank – you. We love you MMI

About MMI

Good teachers are the ones who teach from heart and not from books. MMI truly exemplifies that. MMI focuses on holistic development of the child. "Learning by doing" which is the foundation of a Montessori environment has made Ananya independent and confident. Within a span of nine months, she has learnt so much that our family and friends are pleasantly surprised by her intelligent responses and awareness level

We are extremely delighted ever since we have put our daughter Raya Biswas in MMI. MMI has a lot of positive vibes and is an extremely happy place to be in. The school is providing a perfect platform for these young toddlers to learn the basics in a fun way. Raya has started speaking in English, her interaction has improved tremendously ever since she has started going to MMI. The amount of effort put in by the teachers is commendable. I have observed all the teachers are very affectionate and caring no matter whether the child is in their class or not. Now Raya has moved in a new class (playgroup), she has already developed affection for her existing class teachers and she looks forward going to the school every day.

Our special appreciation goes to the remarkable dedication of the teachers who have a keen eye for identifying each child’s disposition and honing the natural talent that god has given to the child. Their encouragement has built a confident child in Suhasini who is very aware of her abilities and interests and possesses a healthy feeling of self-worth. The splendor of celebrations, the sharpness of curriculum, and the loving hand with which MMI has tended to Suhasini has made it a delightful and wholesome experience.

Thank you!

So happy that MMI has lived upto what it promised, "children will be happy coming to school". Mine are always happy.

It has been an absolute pleasure being associated with MMI over the last 4 years. There have been only words of appreciation that I have for the school. I was so happy with MMI the first time when my daughter Ayesha, went that I decided to send my son Yohan, too and you have lived up and gone beyond all my expectations. Apart from a great team of teachers working very hard on a daily basis, something that I really appreciate about MMI is that you know every child by name. It’s not the class teacher only but starting from Sujata, to the teachers, as well as the didis, they all know every child.

Apart from that I remember one time that my husband and I were totally surprised at how our son had completely surprised us by his performance at a special assembly held in school on plant life. We had no clue that he had been practicing in school. We were happy to see the confidence that was brought out in Yohan by Bela and team. These little things go a long way for little children and is much appreciated.

Thank you for being there for our children and we wish you all the success in the years to come.

- Kudos to MMI!

MMI has helped turn our son from a shy and reticent child to an outgoing and vivacious individual who was questions and opinions which he makes known. The teachers are knowledgeable and supportive and take personal interest in child’s overall development and well-being. The Montessori method has helped infuse clarity of concept in Agastya’s learning. We specifically appreciate the school’s attention to maintain a fine balance between academics and extra-curricular activities that contribute greatly to holistic development of the child. Thank You MMI!!!

Scene 1: My child's first annual function last year! The entire household was excited and apprehensive. Does she know her steps, will she have stage fright, will she smile and wave at us? Numerous questions and no answers. She practiced well in the house and there was no doubt she wouldn't do well.

At the auditorium, we waited patiently for her class to come onto the stage and do their bit. All the kids were looking sweet and adorable in their costumes.

We spotted our child, tall and pretty with fairy wings and all pink! Now the music begins. Nehashree, my heart kept shouting, move, dance well baby. But she didn't move a limb. Her eyes kept absorbing the dark audience in front, the lights, the confetti and the teacher prompting all the students to dance. The whole sequence passed and she only stood still. She only managed a little flap of the wings towards the end.

Scene 2: Her teacher calls me and says she's participating in the Sport's Day and they are doing a small pom pom dance. I am frozen for a second, reminded of the annual function the previous year. Will she do well this time? Will she move at all? We went to the Sports Day eagerly. The school was decorated so nicely as always. Her class came and the music began. I cannot describe with what vigour and enthusiasm she danced and jumped and moved so well. With silver pom poms in her two little hands, smile on her face and expressions too. My child came alive and the whole place seemed to fill up with such joy, sweet music and laughter. I stood up, clapping to the beat of the music, a big smile on my face and tears began to roll down my cheeks. Tears of joy and pride!

I will never forget the Sports Day. Something changed in my daughter that day. The school, the principal, the dedicated aunties and didis all make this school so special. Everyone works as a big team, a family and give special attention where needed. With patience and perseverance all of them keep marching forward, taking our children along with them on a path to make these precious little ones of ours into people we'll be proud of the rest of our lives.

It’s a great feeling and a satisfying experience to see Nergis grow up in an environment like MMI.The innovative methods, friendly and cheerful staff and the support facilitated at MMI has really been commendable. Its great to see the children participate in festival celebrations, small outings, sports and many more like children’s hand impressions to make the Indian flag, letting the children have fun as they learn. I am amazed at how much and how quickly they have learnt at school, knowledge not limited only to classroom learning but to various other aspects of life. Rattling off with ease tongue twisters and big words like ‘flamingo’ names of various plants and trees. Almost on a daily basis she comes home all exited reciting a new poem or a song learnt in class. Her current favourite is ‘Sun! Sun! Mr. Golden Sun....’ I am very happy that she has learnt the National anthem and parts of the Indian flag including the Ashok Chakra. Nergis surprises me with her ability to understand the world. Her reasoning and maturity are beyond what I would expect of her.

Great Job MMI!!!

Success: Although the success of our trained teachers lies in their hard work, nevertheless, each one has excelled in achieving their goals. Few have started their own pre-schools or learning centres, others have become trainers, publishers and course coordinators. The trained teachers are working in Delhi NCR’s reputed pre and formal schools. Some of our trainees are working in other countries like – Dubai, Bahrain, Singapore, England, USA and Canada.

Demand: The demand for Montessori trained teachers is higher than ever before. Schools in Delhi NCR are introducing the method for early childhood education. As these programs grow in schools, so does the need for well trained Montessori teachers.

MMI TTC Initiative

The centre is aware of its social responsibility and has launched a Montessori Awareness Programme in which weekend workshops are being held for teachers from NGO’s. They not only learn presentations but also understand the importance of the need to respect children. We hold frequent workshops for parents so that they understand the philosophy and the method being followed at school, enriching them to handle children in a better way.
